Slow Cooker Ham

Pre-cooked ham is expensive. However, it's very easy to make your own ham from a supermarket gammon joint. They cost about £3 - £4 for a 700g joint which contrasts markedly with the price of a pack of ready cooked, sliced ham.

Unwrap the gammon joint (smoked or unsmoked - your choice), place in a slow cooker and cover with boiling water. Cook on "high" for 4 hours, or "low" for 8. Remove joint from slow cooker. That's it!

This is perfectly acceptable plain ham for sandwiches. If you want something fancy, you can add onions, carrots, & brown sugar to the boiling water (or do a Nigella and add coca cola). Or you can glaze the ham after slow cooking and finish it off in the oven - I'll post a recipe for this at a later date. Otherwise, it just needs to cool before wrapping in foil and putting in the fridge. Slice and serve. Simple.

After slicing, you can portion and freeze it. Or just feed the whole family!
