Fabulous treacle bread

This is a great loaf for sandwiches (sweet or savoury fillings), toast, or soup dunking, and is a favourite of my youngest son. It was inspired by a treacle loaf I bought from a farmers market stall, which looked wonderful, but tasted disappointing. I decided to try and produce a more treacly loaf.

The treacle adds extra iron to the loaf, so it is good for you! ;-)

This is a bread maker recipe.

Put the following dry ingredients into the breadmaker pan:

1 teaspoon rapid acting yeast

350g white flour

150g brown flour

2 tbs powdered skimmed milk

1 tsp salt

15g butter

1 good tablespoon black treacle, mixed with water to 350ml (use lukewarm water to help the treacle dissolve off the spoon)

Cook on a standard bake or delayed bake cycle for a large loaf. For rapid bake add an extra 1/2 tsp yeast.

If these quantities are too large for your bread maker, use the ingredients for a standard white loaf in your bread maker's recipe book, leaving out the sugar, and instead of plain water

use the treacle/ water mix described above.
